This morning I had the pleasant surprise of tasting my first cup of grown in Ghana coffee. Upcountry Coffee is based in Ghana offering high quality craft-roasted coffee to local consumers. Their Robusta coffee is grown at altitudes of 2000 to 3000ft and is inter-planted with other crops, giving it unique flavours. You can find their delicious blends at Stellar Foods locations in Accra and Takoradi.
Upcountry is committed to preserving coffees and improving the lifestyle of farmers through better field processing and providing a local market for gourmet coffee.

Almost exactly one year ago, I had the privilege of chairing the Media Launch for The Ghana School Bag, an innovative new product out of the Kokrobitey Institute. Aside from providing schoolchildren a new range of affordable, stylish and unique backpacks, the project helps to develop a culture of recycling and environmental sustainability from a young age. Additionally, the local manufacturing of these bags provides opportunities for employment within the community.
The Ghana School Bag enjoys considerable support from a number of major private corporations, including DDP. Progressive educational materials were also produced in the form of environmental flash cards, ABC chart and teacher's manual were supported by Finatrade.
Last week, we had the honor to witness the delivery of 500 schoolbags to students at the Omega School in Kokrobite. Omega schools purchased 20000 recycled school bags for all their students. Seeing the look of happiness on the student's faces was simply heartwarming. It left us with a clear impression that this project will surely be a success and will go far to advance its goals of making Ghana a more beautiful, cleaner and environmentally active society.
Pepper is as essential an ingredient in Ghanaian food as tomatoes in Italian food. Here, many people enjoy pepper either as a sauce accompaniment or as a main seasoning in every meal of the day.
To find a robust, flavorful and delicious pepper sauce that has been prepared under international hygienic standards is an extra special treat. The makers of Moco Foods have managed to bring a fantastic new specialty food product to the Ghanaian market. Enjoying their product leaves you with an exciting dilemma. It blows your socks off yet you are simultaneously looking for water to cool off and yearning for more pepper sauce for your next bite!
What makes the dining experience even more satisfying is the back story on Moco's founders and their solid corporate commitment to environmental sustainability, community upliftment and providing employment opportunities to the disabled. When a young professional who has received a top notch international education chooses to come home and to use his valuable expertise and experience for the development of his country, such a choice must be celebrated and respected.
You can learn more about Moco here and if you are as lucky as I was, you will get your hands on a jar as soon as possible. Be sure to let us know what you think.

Many are attracted to Ghana's"Gold Coast" by the promise of wealth found in our natural resources, Oil & Gas, Mining and Cocoa. For generations however, our finest resource has been and remains to be, our human resource. Ghanaian students excel in universities across the globe and the ingenuity and creativity of our artisans and musicians is truly admirable.
AccraPremium had the privilege of meeting the young men behind Heel The World and suffice it to say, we were completely impressed by their professionalism, their creativity, their work ethic and the sense of positive purpose behind their business practices.
While Heel The World is primarily a men's shoe manufacturing company, there is an element of socially responsible entrepreneurship at the heart of their business model. An integral tool of communicating their message of entrepreneurial upliftment is their signature souvenir, the Empowerment Beads.
These young men, in collaboration with other organizations offer small business management and skills development training for aspiring entrepreneurs. You can follow their blog here. Through their leadership and initiative, these gentlemen and their young team demonstrate that Ghana's true golden years are yet to come.
