Many are attracted to Ghana's"Gold Coast" by the promise of wealth found in our natural resources, Oil & Gas, Mining and Cocoa. For generations however, our finest resource has been and remains to be, our human resource. Ghanaian students excel in universities across the globe and the ingenuity and creativity of our artisans and musicians is truly admirable.
AccraPremium had the privilege of meeting the young men behind Heel The World and suffice it to say, we were completely impressed by their professionalism, their creativity, their work ethic and the sense of positive purpose behind their business practices.
While Heel The World is primarily a men's shoe manufacturing company, there is an element of socially responsible entrepreneurship at the heart of their business model. An integral tool of communicating their message of entrepreneurial upliftment is their signature souvenir, the Empowerment Beads.
These young men, in collaboration with other organizations offer small business management and skills development training for aspiring entrepreneurs. You can follow their blog here. Through their leadership and initiative, these gentlemen and their young team demonstrate that Ghana's true golden years are yet to come.

For the past 7 years, on the last Sunday of September, the Accra International Marathon has been held. This popular event is aimed at promoting active healthy lifestyles and fitness and to increase life expectancy among Ghanaians. This year's event will take place 29 September 2013.
They attract a truly international group of runners, many who have visited Africa for the first time. In doing so, this event also puts Ghana on the world map as a desirable tourism destination for health enthusiasts.
This year will include a special group of marathoners traveling all the way from California with Judge Craig Mitchell who has introduced marathon running to them as a way to improve the quality of their lives (read more).
The event features a Full Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Team Relay Races. The finish line leads the runners to the back lawn of the lovely Labadi Beach Hotel where there are vendors, food and entertainment. It is really a great way to spend the day.
The Accra International Marathon is also a fundraising vehicle for the The Longevity Project.

Ghanaian music has a richly varied history. From the distinctive traditional rhythms and styles found in each region of our country, to the Highlife melodies, the HipLife explosion and today's Azonto, Ghanaian musicians have proven to be highly gifted and creative musical trailblazers.
Paapa (known privately as Kwaku hMensa) is one of Ghana'a finest talents on today's musical scene. A truly skilled musician, Paapa plays a variety of instruments, many of which he taught himself from a young age.
If forced to put Paapa's music into a category, his musical genre could be described as Contemporary Alternative Christian R&B. That said, his music is simply good. People of all faiths, (or of no organized faith at all) can easily and closely relate to the themes expressed in his beautiful songs. The melodies of his music can be enjoyed by people of diverse musical tastes and of any age.
His sophmore album "Songs For Kukua" tells the story of a young Ghanaian man named Kwaku who leaves the girl he loves (Kukua) to pursue academic opportunities in the US. While Kukua loves him very much, she understands that he needs to leave her to improve his opportunities in life. Kukua says, if Kwaku has to leave, at least he should write songs for her ("Write For Me"). We soon learn that Kukua is not a girl but is actually an artistic representation of Ghana, which was founded on Wednesday March 6, 1957. Songs for Kukua tells Kwaku's story of love for his country (Kukua/Ghana), his growing faith and love of God and his experiences adjusting to a new life in a foreign country.
Songs For Kukua was launched at a sold out concert recently at Alliance Francaise Accra and is a remarkable work of art by a young Ghanaian artist with a bright future ahead of him. Find a copy for yourself either online or at the AccraPremium offices. Skillions Records proudly presents, Paapa!

When a restaurant manages to keep you in love and excited to receive your meal after 10 good years, you know they are doing something right.
Le Magellan Restaurant, located on Ring Road East, just near the Nyaniba Estates Junction is for many food lovers in Accra, a home away from home. The ambiance is quietly elegant. Even when filled to capacity with music playing, there is a sense of serenity and comfort.
The entire restaurant is spotless, tastefully designed and the table cloths and napkins are starched to perfection.
The menu (French, Continental and Mediterranean) is varied and the food, fresh and delicious. The seafood (my favorite) and the fine cuts of meat are consistently top quality. They also have a great selection of wines and spirits.
The management policies of good customer service and good employee relations are clearly demonstrated by the number of long-term kitchen and wait staff who have provided professional service to Le Magellan's satisfied customers since it's opening.
Le Magellan is TRULY an AccraPremium destination.
